NURSERY

Our Nursery has 48 part time places split into 24 in the morning and 24 in the afternoon. The session times can be found later in this prospectus. The nursery staff consists of one nursery teacher and one nursery nurse. As the need arises a support assistant is also available to support individual children with Special Educational Needs. The nursery nurse course at Huddersfield Technical College sends students to us on a regular basis.

Nursery is a big step for both parent and child to take. We aim to provide a welcoming environment in which your child feels happy and eager to learn. Parents also need to feel secure in the knowledge that their child will have the best possible care.

We aim to develop each child's potential through educational experience whilst at the same time developing their confidence, self-esteem and independence. We are therefore developing the whole child as well as their pre-school academic performance. The nursery is organised to encourage the children to visit a variety of activities whenever they choose during the session and gain experience when they are ready. This way they will have fun whilst they are learning and want the fun to continue.

Milk, biscuit and fruit are available during the session each day for which a small charge is made. These are used as an educational as well as a social experience.

Sessions are carefully planned and monitored as Early Learning Goals under the headings of:

  • Creative
  • Language and literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Personal and social
  • Physical

Topics are chosen in a two-year cycle to correspond with the reception classes. This way we can ensure the progression and development throughout the early years. From September 2000 Nursery and Reception classes have come under the umbrella title of the Foundation Stage.

This half term in the Foundation Stage they have been learning about colour and shape. Here are some examples of the work they have been doing. They have been experimenting with mixing colour to make new colours and produced these lovely pictures.

They have used the computer to make these lovely colourful pictures for their calendars and they have also been thinking about Christmas. Each day they have been opening another stocking on their advent calendar.
